Hi all,
We need to discuss the "legal" stuff about the anthology and talk about it so we don't get into any pitfalls, arguments, hurt feelings and legal troubles. I know I have posted a lot and have acted as a "leader" but you should all know that I am willing to share responsibility and authority and that the decisions I am making are just to get things rolling and not necessarily set in stone... With this in mind I have suggested a list of "rules" we will need to discuss as we get closer to whatever we are going to print...
1) Since we are dealing with other peoples characters and intellectual property... we must have a chapter cover page for each story properly crediting their owners and copyright holders. Meaning each story in the anthology will need to have the following on that stories cover page:
A Doujinshi based on Fictional events and characters by <artist creators name>. <list of characters> are TM and (C) (the person/company who owns them.) Used with no intention of receiving profit but as a means to express new stories within their universe.
2) All of your artwork and stories are yours... You are allowing the Cluster to print them and distribute them.[(NOTE: This will be informal con stuff...and hopefully we'll all get a chance sit together at an artist alley table and sell these to recoup printing costs.) But you can also do whatever you want with the artwork because it is yours. We are just providing a printing means so you can share your artwork with fellow fans in more fun and safer way then posting your artwork online. However, if you sell your artwork to another publication and they gain "rights" to it... we must be informed so we can remove it from future print runs or anthologies.
3) Printing cost moneys... and because of legal entaglements of selling fan manga. (selling is to recoup the cost of print runs only)...print runs will have to be kept to around 250 copies per print-run to keep a "low-profile." (The only reason its overlooked in Japan is because it is an underground thing and no-one makes money off of it.) We need to keep doujinshi culture underground or else we will be asked to stop.)
Note: None of us can make money off of this anthology beyond putting it towards print runs because we are using other peoples characters...however exposure will hopefully help some if not all of us...get future gigs drawing stuff. Or end up like Clamp and get hired to make stuff as a group(which would be fun). But the goal should be to SHARE good stories and art with other fans and build doujinshi culture in America.
Discuss... post any responses and questions or concerns... we're just getting started.
